"EXCLUSIVE: Technical Problems With Xbox Live When Used With Other Microsoft Accounts

XBox Live Gold Subscription Cards “break” if you apply them to a Passport Account that has another premium Microsoft Service (such as MSN or hotmail plus). After some initial live game play, you will get a message stating: “Your account has been suspended due to a problem with your payment option. Please use a diffrent payment option or update your current information in Account Management”. This has happened to a number of users, including WildAttorney, the creator of this site.

If you call XBox Live support, they will tell you that your GamerTag doesn’t exist. You will still be able to post to the message boards and all achievements you collect while playing offline will still be tracked, but you won’t be able to play with others using XBox Live or access the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Microsoft is currently working on a fix to the problem." [link]
