PS3 GPU More Powerful than GF7800 - TeamXbox's Mea Culpa!

PS3 GPU More Powerful than GF7800
TeamXbox's Mea Culpa!

By: Richard Allen

Looks like the XFanboys over at Team Xbox have been spreading dirty rumors about the PS3's powerful RSX graphics processing chip. Yesterday, according to Team Xbox's report on an article by the British site the Inquirer, it was reported that the PS3's RSX GPU would not be as fast as the GeForce 7800. Later in the day, TeamXbox retracted the story after a representitve of Nvida contacted the site to set them straight.

This whole debacle started over a misread quote out of PSM magazine.
"There's no doubting that NVIDIA's new 7800GTX is the ultimate in PC graphics technology. The card's G70 GPU, which is more than twice as powerful as two of NVIDIA's previous top-of-the-line 6800 boards, shares a lot of similar workings with the PS3's RSX chip - only it isn't as fast. Oh, and it retails for $599."
"Only isn't as fast" refers to the 7800 not the RSX. The Inquirer and TeamXbox should brush up on their grammar! Kudos to TeamXbox for taking the slap in the face and admitting the error, they could have very easily just removed the article and acted link nothing happened.
