Though details have yet to be released, EA Games will have exclusive rights to produce Simpons games for the next generation consoles. No launch dates or specific details have been announced at this point.
The development process will be handled by EA’s skilled Redwood Shores Studio, which currently produces games like Tiger Woods, The Godfather and the Sims.
In 2001, EA published Simpsons Road Rage and Simpsons Skateboarding in 2002, which were met with poor reviews. In the 90’s, Fox Interactive had rights to the franchise with title such as Virtual Springfield. Even as far back in 1991, Konami had a crack at the Simpsons.
Nick Earl, VP&GM EA Redwood Shores Studio said, "This is a great opportunity for our talented development team to collaborate with the brilliant minds of The Simpsons to bring original Simpsons material to videogame fans. This is something EA's been interested in for years and now game development and technology is at a place where the characters and world will really come alive in these games."
Twentieth Century Fox president Gary Newman added, "The Simpsons is our crown jewel and with every additional episode is creating a legacy of creativity and success unmatched in this industry. Its huge appeal among teens and young adults coupled with its seemingly limitless universe of memorable characters makes it a natural fit for video gaming, and we believe Electronic Arts is exactly the right creative partner to bring Springfield to life in this medium."
The production company and writers of the Simpson will collaborate with EA, which includes the hugely popular voice actors. No titles have been discussed at his point, However, EA will produce the games on a long term basis across all next generation video game consoles.
Along with Mario, Link and Metroid, the Nintendo Revolution will likely see Homer and the rest of the Simpson clan sometime in the near future." [
