So where was the Phantom at E3?

"One of the big surprises to emerge from E3 2004 was Infinium’s Phantom console, available for test in playable form on a really rather impressive booth, complete with plasma TV’s, girls and free T-shirts, seeing the firm covering all the tradeshow bases.

“...Infinium Labs is dedicated to launching the Phantom
Game Service and has committed its full attention and
resources on product rather than trade shows. We
continue to achieve significant and well publicized
milestones and are well on our way to delivering to
consumers a compelling end-to-end, video games
on demand solution.”

This year there was nothing. Not a murmur, prompting many to assume the Phantom was, as expected, living up to its name and disappearing into the darker space surrounding capital investment in the technology sector.

SPOnG contacted Infinium CEO Tim Roberts for clarification of the issue last night, eager to find out why the no show had occurred. He came back to us to say, “This is our company’s statement to the public regarding E3: Infinium Labs is dedicated to launching the Phantom Game Service and has committed its full attention and resources on product rather than trade shows. We continue to achieve significant and well publicized milestones and are well on our way to delivering to consumers a compelling end-to-end, video games-on-demand solution.”

So according to the firm, all is well. However, one would imagine that at least a meeting room at this year’s event to discuss “significant and well publicized milestones” wouldn’t have been too much to ask.

We’ll keep you updated with any and all Phantom news as the saga plays itself out. Stay tuned."
