"In an AP article, Ken Kutaragi, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment, reiterated the high retail cost of the company's next-generation console, Playstation 3.
'It will be expensive,' Kutaragi said during a strategy event held today in Japan.
The Playstation 3 will include several costly components, including the state-of-the-art Cell CPU co-developed by IBM, Toshiba, and Sony, a custom GPU by Nvidia, and Blu-ray disc technology to read next-generation DVD formats.

Analysts expect the Playstation 3 to cost around $500 to manufacture, with the retail price set at around $399. The Xbox 360 is expected to cost around the same as the original Xbox, at around $299.
Next-generation games will cost $10-20 more than today's retail games. Video game retailers EB Games list PS3 and Xbox 360 games at a retail price of $59.99."
