HD-DVD, DVD and CD on One Chip
"Sanyo Electrics has announced that it has successfully integrated on a single LSI chip support for HD-DVD, DVD and CD.
This makes the integration in electronic devices of the HD-DVD cheaper and also much friendlier than ever and could impact on future iterations of hardware platforms.
On the DVD side, the LSI supports DVD + and –R, as well as both DVD-ROM and RAM. On CD side, it supports R and RW. A first application is already scheduled with a drive for notebook which will be released in spring 2006."
