Sony PS3 Blu-ray included for more than 3 to 5 times the cost

Sony PS3 Blu-ray included for more than three to five times the cost

"According to Sony, the next-gen Sony PlayStation 3 video game console will include a Blu-ray disc player which save's three to five times the cost of a normal Blu-ray disc player.

With the announcement of Samsung and Pioneer selling Blu-ray players between $1,000 to $1,800, it would seem more reasonable to purchase the Sony PlayStation 3 unit for $399.

According to Sony, the next-gen Sony PS3 video game console will include a Blu-ray disc player. Which is a path that is very similar to their PS2 marketing approach. What's the catch? We don't know. We find it weird though, seeing that there is a regular price that's over $1,000 and getting a complete Blu-ray unit plus a video game console for only $399. Is there something that we missed?

About the two new Blu-ray players, Samsung BD-1000 and Pioneers BDP-HD1, are scheduled to be released in the spring. The cost of the two units is expected to be around $1000 and $1800 respectively.

Toshiba
also announced that two HD DVD players would be hitting the shelves this year in March. The HD-XA1 will go on sale for $799.99 while the HD-A1 will be priced at $499.99." [more]
