"A new pirate game was announced today for PC and Xbox 360, and although it's not necessarily as mainstream as Sid Meier's Pirates, it's being developed by Akella, the studio that did the outstanding Sea Dogs game for PC. And that alone has our attention.
The game, called Captain Blood, will be published by Playlogic and focus on the adventurous escapades of the notorious Captain Peter Blood, the most eccentric pirate from Rafael Sabatini’s bestselling book.
Players will assume the 1685 role of an English surgeon who was framed and condemned to penal servitude on Barbados. During hard times, the surgeon became a pirate and escaped from his tropical prison, setting the stage for the rest of the mission-based action game.
Battles will take place on both land and sea, with gamers taking part in ship-to-ship battles and sword fights to gain control of invaded ships. In essence, it sounds just like Sea Dogs, which is most certainly not a bad thing. Gamers will earn special points for fighting rival sea dogs, acquiring new fighting techniques and gold for weapons and equipment.
Captain Blood is currently scheduled to release in the summer of 2006. It was not stated whether the game would be a Europe-only product or would also ship to other regions."
