"Oh, Carla - how could you? We're talking about Playboy's second yearly set of photospreads dedicated to female gaming characters, all of whom are posing in rendered form sans clothes. What confuses this is one of the characters involved. Last year ladies who were more obviously designed as objects of desire stepped up - such as Bloodrayne and a Leisure Suit Larry girl - but this year one unlikely candidate stripping down is Fahrenheit's professional leading lady, Carla.

Publisher Atari's handing over a render of the NYPD cop - wearing, according to the write up in CNN, "nothing but handcuffs" - doesn't infuriate, but it does confuse. For Fahrenheit's US release (where the game is called Indigo Prophecy), publisher Atari has removed certain in context sex scenes from in-game cinematics, but having its leading lady pose topless seems to be fair game. It also tends to take the shine off of Fahrenheit's more mature edge as well-played drama/thriller.

What makes this even more curious is that Fahrenheit's backers seem to have pushed her to the front of the queue. "I literally had to turn away six or seven publishers," explains Playboy senior editor Scott Alexander on the popularity of the themed issue after last year's debut." [more]
