"Video game retail sales in the U.S. are down 20% in the month of September as consumers wait for next-generation consoles to drop to store shelves.
In a report by Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter, sales fell to $365 million from $458 million the year previous.
Game sales are expected to grow in the Nov. - Dec. period on strong holiday sales.
Microsoft will release the company's Xbox 360 console on Nov. 22nd to fire the next round of the console wars.
Sony will drop the Playstation 3 in spring 2006, while Nintendo said that the company's next-generation console, code-named Revolution will be released sometime next year.
Video game publishers, including Electronic Arts and Activision, are expected to see a rise in sales at two and four percent, respectively.
Sales at Take-Two Interactive, pubisher of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, are forecast to drop 24 percent from the year previous." [
