"Microsoft has finally somewhat revealed their sales target for the Xbox 360 gaming console which is due to hit the retail market later this month. The next generation gaming console is destined to take on Sony Playstation 3, which would arrive sometime next year. Their were reports in the media that the Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming console would see a shortage in the initial stages in the market after the launch.
However, it looks like that the initial shipment volumes of the Xbox 360 gaming console would be lower than originally assumed. Though Microsoft has reportedly kept the target sales figures of around 4.5 to 5.5 million Xbox 360 by June next year. This is a worldwide sales expectation from the Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming console and by June, it would be clearer on when the competition in the form of Sony PS3 and Nintendo Revolution arrives.
The company is planning to keep the supplies constant after the initial launch rather than create a shortage by shipping tons of units in one go and prepare the next shipment. This might end up hurting the sales of the new gaming console, which Microsoft is launching simultaneously in all the major markets of the world. No one has ever tried to launch such a mass targeted product for a worldwide launch." [link]
