Project Gotham Racing 3 Review (Xbox 360)

"The sport of drifting is quite popular in the states now, which leads me to believe that Project Gotham Racing 3 will have a huge following as it speeds onto the Xbox 360 in a few days. Fans of the first two PGR titles will be very familiar with drifting, even if they were unaware that there are actual competitions out there which revolve around driving and sliding with flair. Well, you’ll get your chance once again to go into turns slideways and rack up mad kudos, but this time the experience is much deeper and grander.

We know the capabilities of the Xbox 360, and we know Bizarre Creations’ arcade racer prowess, but is Project Gotham Racing 3 really worth its weight in kevlar? Can I get a “hell yeah!”?

For those of you that haven’t had the chance to play the Xbox’s Project Gotham Racing and Project Gotham Racing 2, uh, where have you been for the past four years? But seriously, you should go and rent these games now to understand a bit more about the Kudos system and how you’ll advance through Project Gotham Racing 3.

The PGR series is really about racing, but with the caveat that your performance on the track must also look impressive to onlookers. So, not only do you have to win races and beat attack times, but you’ll also have to do this while drifting, catching air, and kicking some two-wheel motion. Every move out of the ordinary realm of professional road racing (hitting apexes, not wrecking into other drivers, etc.) will earn you Kudos, which is a fancy way of saying credits. These Kudos go towards raising your ranking and buying more and more cars." [more]
