Why Petition?/Call Jack Thompson!

Why Petition?/Call Jack Thompson!

"We've been asked several times why we're supporting a Online Petition when everybody knows that Politicians don't care about online petitions. We were asked for an answer, so here it is:

Whenever this topic hits the limelight every 6 months or so, all the same people trot out there with the PHD's on both sides of the fence arguing philosophical reasons for and against Video Games. But where are the actual Gamers? Gamers these days are something of a mix between Gen X and the (Much as I am loath to say it) the MTV generation. We cross age boundaries and we cross racial barriers. Being a gamer isn't a classification, it's a way of life. It's knowing that this thing that you enjoy so much is also enjoyed by tens of millions of people around the world.

So the next logical question is 'If there are so many gamers, why is all this negative attention coming at us from politicans and lawyers?'
Simple answer there, it's because its a (relatively) new group. Gamers have been around (at most) 30 or so years, and frankly speaking we're not the ones in power. I wrote an editorial last week about the difference in treatment that violent videogames get versus Movies." [more]

Jack Thompson's crusade against video games is equivalent to book burning! Sign the petition today!
