90 Million PS2s Shipped
"Milestone reached in record time
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced that they have shipped 90 million PS2 console units worldwide. This includes more than 21 million units in Asia, 36 million units in North America, and 32 million units in Europe and PAL territories. This milestone was reached in 5 years and 3 months, which is 2 years and 3 months faster than the original PlayStation did.
In excess of 5,000 different PS2 games have been made worldwide with over 800 million copies shipped. 2004 alone saw the shipment of 252 million software units. The new slim line PS2 (SCPH-70000 series, for the technical minded) shipped more than 16 million between November 2004 and March 2005."
