Halo 3 to eclipse PS3 launch

"Expectation rises for Microsoft to 'pull a Halo' once more as US e-tailer takes pre-orders for Halo 3

US online retail website GameStop.com is taking pre-orders for Halo 3, citing a 1 June 2006 release, despite the fact that the game is yet to be officially announced.

Following yesterday's online retail shenanigans - which revealed expected dates and prices of Xbox 360 games, plus news that Burnout Revenge will come to Xbox 360 after all - it seems the next-gen game release rumour-mill is firmly in motion.

It's fairly safe to assume that Halo 3 is indeed on the way but as for the 1 June date... well, this will no doubt change depending on Sony's PS3 plans.

Microsoft will want to release the next instalment to its biggest franchise right alongside Sony's PS3 launch - just as Halo 2 hit the shelves alongside Sony's introduction of the slimline PS2 hardware late last year. "
